Aisla Craig Onions
Aisla Craig Onions are a globe-shaped, straw-colored heirloom variety of sweet Spanish onions. Best for fresh use, they are not known for extended storage. Delicious when baked, sauteed, added to soups, on burgers, or in salads. They were introduced in 1887 by David Murray, gardener for the Marquis of Aisla at Culzean Castle in Maybole, South Ayrshire, Scotland.
Storage: Aisla Craig Onions should be used soon after harvest as they do not store well. Keep in a cool, dry open space away from bright light.
Preparation: Best used fresh, these are reminiscent of Spanish onions with their sweet, mild flavor.
Taste: Relatively mild and sweet.
Nutritional Benefits: Onions are a great source of phytochemical that may help to promote healthy cholesterol levels and blood pressure. They are also a superb source of fiber, vitamin C, vitamin B6, manganese, and folate.
