2022 CSA Farm Update: Week 1
Welcome to the first week of the 2022 Katchkie Farm CSA! We have been very busy at the farm over the past several months seeding, planting, weeding, and watering. Now the first harvest has commenced and will grace your tables.
Those first vegetables that are picked always seem extra special. During the heart of winter when the earth is frozen and snow covered, I wonder how is it possible that these fields will return to their productive state and there will be a time when we can barely keep up the growth that is taking place before our eyes? That time has arrived! Right now, the days are the longest they will be for the entire year, and we are doing everything in our power to utilize this gift.
Early spring was a bit cool and rainy upstate this year, which delayed our scheduled plantings, but the last few weeks have been perfect. Much of the farm fields are now full of growing vegetables with some set aside for our July and August plantings of brassica, lettuces, and carrots. The list of what we have growing in the fields this year is too numerous to mention, but rest assured that there is quite an array of delicious produce on the way. Along with some new arrivals this year including snap beans, fingerling potatoes and cauliflower.
Until next time,
Jon
