2021 CSA Farm Update: Week 9
Welcome, everyone, to week 9 of the Katchkie Farm CSA. How quickly the weather has returned to summer! The daily temps are back in upper 80s and low 90s and the irrigation pump is back on. Our irrigation pond has never been fuller this time of year, thank to all the rain.
Tomatoes are now in full production thanks to the warmer weather. We will most likely see a smaller crop than in previous years, but no less delicious. Here at Katchkie, we grow many different types and varieties of our beloved tomato. Red, green, pink, orange are the array of colors that can be seen in the tomato field this time of year. That is only the color profile of what can be see–tomatoes are so much more than color. The flavor of these wonderful summer fruits is where their true allure lies. Sliced as an addition to your sandwich or a flavorful summer salad, or cooked down for hours to make a sauce is just the beginning of how to enjoy a tomato. There are as many ways to prepare them as there are stars in the sky. This, part however is up to you! Please enjoy them while they are here, for summer is here one day and gone the next.
This week, we have an addition of certified Organic potatoes from MX Morningstar Farm. We did not grow potatoes this year at Katchkie Farm, but there is nothing like those first summer potatoes!
Until next time,
Farmer Jon
