2021 CSA Farm Update: Week 20
Hello everyone and welcome to Week 20 of the Katchkie Farm CSA. Those beginning weeks of the CSA seems like years away. We have a special treat this week with mini purple broccoli. It is very sweet, tender, and delicious. We trial many vegetables over the farming season; some will not make it, but others do very well. This week’s broccoli happens to be one of the ones that did well!
With the end of the growing season upon us, I often get asked what do crop farmers do during the winter months. One of my mentors would often say to me that after all the crops were in for the year is the only time we truly get to farm. Farming is a fine balance between giving and taking. We have to make sure we are always giving something that is contributing toward the health of our farm’s being. The winter months are a moment to make sure that we have balance in the plan; a moment to make sure that the soil will sustain us for years ahead.
While we still have daylight and before the winds fly, there is still much to do before the winter’s work.
Until next time,
Farmer Jon
