2021 CSA Farm Update: Week 22

Garlic beds, cover crop, and tilled fields.

Dear CSA members,

Welcome to the final week of your Katchkie Farm CSA! I hope you have enjoyed eating your vegetables as much as we have enjoyed growing them for you. This season at the farm has kept us on our toes. With record summer rains, we were unsure of how the fall harvest would look. The soils’ resilience came through with a little help from our field drainage system. We are pleased to bring this last share together with many of those crops that made it through the storm.

As the world changes rapidly around us, the food we share together can act as source of grounding and inspiration. That bunch of kale that is about to be cooked has a whole story behind it. It has felt every gust of wind, every drop of rain, every ray of sun, and seen all the starry nights here on the farm. Now, it makes it way to the table to provide nourishment for a hungry belly and to comfort a tired soul.

From the first seed to the final bagged and delivered share, there have been many tiny miracles along the way. I want to say thank you for being a catalyst to them all. Without the courageous eaters, we cannot have the inspired growers! Yes, anyone who lets a farm and the weather dictate their menu is considered courageous in my book!

Until next time,
Farmer Jon
