Katchkie Farm New Year’s Feast

By Kristy King January 5, 2016

Thanks to El Niño and his partner in crime Global Warming, we had an unusually warm December up at Katchkie Farm. The bizarre temperatures meant we were harvesting everything from delicate herbs to hardy greens all month long.

Even the bees were busy in December

The result? All the fixings for a perfect New Year’s Day menu. Everything in bold below was freshly harvested from the fields!

Ham Rubbed with Prepared Mustard and Rosemary
Black-Eyed Peas (for good luck!), seasoned with Onions and Bacon
Mustard Greens
Roasted Cauliflower and Turnips
Roasted and Mashed Butternut Squash
Butternut Squash Pie

It’s hard to believe we harvested some of these vegetables just this past week! However, temperatures are starting to drop, so it may have very well been our last fresh farm supper for a while. It’s a good thing – time to start up on our New Year’s resolutions! Well, as soon as the leftovers are all gone…
