Hell’s Kitchen CSA
Do you want to make an investment in local, organic agriculture? Do you dream of having organic produce delivered to your neighborhood each week? Do you want to expand your cooking repertoire by learning to cook with everything from garlic scapes to celery root? Then consider joining the Hell’s Kitchen CSA with Katchkie Farm.
What’s a CSA?
Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Program is a direct market relationship where members pay for a season of produce before the season begins, making an investment in our farm. Beginning in June you can pick up your weekly share from Katchkie Farm at Signature Theater Cafe every Thursday. The share will consist of 7-11 different veggies each week, depending on the farm’s availability.
When and Where?
In its second year, the Hell’s Kitchen CSA will be distributed at the Signature Theater Cafe on Thursdays. Likely timing will be 3pm-6pm Thursdays, starting June 14 and ending November 8. That’s 22 weeks of organic, farm fresh vegetables for you and your family!
Tell me more about Katchkie Farm!
Katchkie Farm is a certified organic farm in Kinderhook, New York. Owned by catering company Great Performances, a portion of the harvest is used by the catering company, a portion is dedicated to our CSA, while the rest is sold at farmer’s markets in New York City and used in our unique line of artisanal sauces. Since 2006, Farm Manager Bob Walker has turned an unfarmed parcel of land into a gorgeous, thriving farm, growing nearly seventy different vegetables on 12 acres. As we like to say on the farm, “Our passion starts at seed.”
What will I get over the course of the season?
This year, Katchkie Farm will be growing:
Artichokes, Arugula, Fava Beans, Beets, Bok Choi, Brazing Greens, Broccoli, Broccoli Raab, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage (mini, Chinese, red, green), Cantaloupe, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery Root, Collard Greens, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Fennel, Garlic, Greens, Basil, Dill, Parsley, Cilantro, Kale, Kohlrabi, Leeks, Lettuce Heads, Okra, Onion, Parsnip, Pas, Peppers (bell and hot), Radishes, Romanesco, Rutabaga, Scallions, Spinach, Summer Squash, Swiss Chard, Tomatillos, Tomatoes (beefsteak, plum, cherry, heirloom), Turnips, Winter Squash (butternut, delicata), Zucchini
While we don’t grow potatoes or green beans, because of their popularity, for the first time this year we’ll be supplying them from neighboring (organic) farms to bring to you and your family as part of the share!
Volunteer Requirement
We ask that all members commit to 3 hours of volunteering over the course of the CSA. Members can fulfill their volunteer requirement during a single Thursday drop off.
We are also looking to form a “Core Team” of volunteers for the CSA. If you are interested in becoming a member of the team that will help plan events augmenting the community aspect of the CSA, please contact info [at] katchkiefarm [dot] com
CSA “Contract”
By clicking and paying for the Hell’s Kitchen CSA I agree to the following:
A CSA is a commitment between a farm and a shareholder. Katchkie Farm is committed to providing high
quality, certified organic produce to shareholders for a 22 week season from June through November for
$530 for a full share, or for $280 for a half share. All deliveries will be made to Signature Theater and must be picked up by the shareholder. I understand that the timing of the pickup is SUBJECT TO CHANGE but will LIKELY take place on Thursdays, June 14 through November 8 from 3pm-6pm. I understand that this timing will be finalized by April 1. Deliveries not picked up will not be refunded. Shareholders may arrange for another person to pick up the share in their stead if they are out of town or unable to pick up the share.
Please register me as a member of the Hell’s Kitchen Community Supported Agriculture Program (CSA)
with Katchkie Farm for the upcoming growing season of 2012. I understand that the first $100 of my payment is a deposit and that the rest is refundable but only if I cancel my share by May 15 by contacting info [at] katchkiefarm [dot] com. I understand that farming is a seasonal and unpredictable undertaking, and the exact selections and quantities included in the weekly distribution will change as the season progresses. In joining the CSA, I agree to share in the fluctuations and variations inherent in farming.
